Melbourne is a wonderful corner of the world to eat and drink.
It just sucks how many venues get too effin’ loud when they’re busy.
This drove me up the wall as a punter because I knew how easy it is to fix.
After whingeing about it a bit, I thought: why not try to help?
There’s the stuff that’s far too expensive for cafes, bars and restaurants. Then there’s the stuff that’s way too cheap.
At the ritzy end of the market you can spend tens of thousands on bass traps, broadband absorbers, Helmholtz resonators, diffusers and other gadgetry.
You can bring in fancy consultants to take measurements, move things all around, measure it again and recommend new bits and pieces for a second, third or fourth round of treatment.
So what if you don’t want to throw all that time and money at it? Fair enough.
It's so much more than you really need.
Like those foam tiles from AliExpress. If you don’t mind how they look, these will chop some of the higher frequencies. They’re too thin to do much though.
Anything below about 1000 hertz will still bounce around, and that’s always where most of your problems are.
Your customers will still raise their voices to be heard over that, only adding to the echo.
So what about something that sits in the middle?
Something serious enough to get the job done, without all the hassles and expense of building a concert venue.
These are panels designed for a single purpose: soaking up kitchen and crowd noise.
They use a special acoustic material with enough thickness and an air gap to soak up all the frequencies that matter for human conversation.
If you have your own idea how they should look, hit me with it! I’m all about going the extra mile to make it look right.
Along the way, I do what I can to make this as easy and simple as possible, with all the maths and physics done for you and no disruption to the rest of your business. I’ll hang them up for you if you want.
